Chets Diner
Chet’s Diner on Route 20 was a popular late night spot for many years. It was built on site, around 1931, and looks like what is called a Worcester Diner. I found these photos at an estate sale a few years ago. The photographer seems to have stopped at Chets after an evening out in Boston, around 1940.
Here are some interior views.

Loved having a western for lunch at Chet’s Diner. Those were the days in the l980s
when I worked at Metro Corporate Center in Marlboro.. Chet, the Mrs. and their daughter were so lovely, friendly and personable. Is it still in business?

Bands would play here frequently in the 1990s like Childhood, Sheez Late, Huck, and other local bands. It was loud, yet cozy. A little back room on the East side of the diner that was at a lower level than the main diner yielded a place where conversations could be had out of the main blast area of the evening’s entertainment.
The fare was excellent, and it was modestly priced as were drinks. The staff was extremely friendly.
Lots of fond memories of Chet’s Diner. Though I don’t live in MA anymore, I believe it is still in business. I’ll have to check next time I’m up for a visit.

Chet’s is still in business run by the same family you remember from the 1980′s although Jimmy (not Chet, Chet was original owner way back) has since passed on.
Ann (the daughter) is mainly running it with her husband (former big league pitcher, Maek Fydrich). Her mother Nancy has had some health problems in recent years but still comes in from time to time, (last time I was there, December, 2007).

[...] Chet’s Diner — But this was the real delight — the Framingham View blog has several wonderful old photos of the diner, taken around 1940. They are smoky night shots, inside and out, that look like something straight out of an old movie — very cinema noir! Amazing. [...]

In high school (Algonquin) I had a teacher who used to play steel guitar at Chet’s from time to time. Why I never went I don’t know. Still kicking myself over that one.

I would really like to use these pictures on my personal website. I take photos of old Diners with my 1961 Comet parked in front of them and I recently did Chets. I will give you full credit and a link to this site.
Thanks

Although I can’t share all the memories…This place was the underground rock and roll capitol of New England. As the Bass player for The Perpetrators, Hot House and Choosey Mothers Chet’s was home away from home. Billy and the crew ran a good ship. We would sometimes be called short notice to play on Fri notes and go under the name Fish & Chips..This place rocked…literally! The Fabulous Chets Diner is a true slice of American Pie!
